A very fine couple of days in the Cairngorms’ Garbh Choire Mòr and its environs, filming a piece for Channel 4. Unfortunately the Sphinx and Pinnacles patches are very small for the time of year, though they looked wonderful with red snow algae shot through them. pic.twitter.com/CBqoQw2Lu2
Blood Snow or Watermelon Snow has been found in the Antarctic & the Alps. It's caused by an algae called Chlamydomonas nivalis. It was noted as early as the fourth century BC, by the Greek philosopher Aristotle. It actually smells like watermelon. Images: Times India. pic.twitter.com/EPr297iRIc
